Andrew Geddes Andrew Geddes, founding Director of the EURASIA Institute, is a British national. After studying and working for several years in China and Japan, he founded the EURASIA Institute in Berlin, Germany in 1993.

Andrew Geddes is responsible for the leadership, management and strategic development of the Institute.

He takes care of fundamental structural and personnel-related decisions. He also takes responsibility for the prosperity of EURASIA as well as the development and welfare of its staff.

Andrew Geddes was born in Manchester, England. His interest in foreign languages and cultures was aroused while he was a pupil at Manchester Grammar School, where he learnt German, French, Latin and Modern Greek.

After leaving school, he studied Chinese and Icelandic at Leeds University, and later, also Japanese and Cantonese. Even while he was still a student he had several stays in China. After successfully completing his degree he went to Japan, where he taught English in the province of Gunma, in five primary schools and two middle schools, and also worked as Coordinator for International Relations for the local provincial government.

In Japan, Andrew Geddes founded a charity under the name of "Boing Club", which worked towards intercultural understanding between Japanese and the local foreign community. In addition, the Club promoted international awareness for charity projects.

In parellel with this, Andrew formed the BAG (Bicycles Against the Greenhouse Effect) group, to support Japanese environmental projects. In Japan, he also wrote his own plays, which were performed at a local cultural festival, and completed the 2nd grade of Omotesenke Tea Ceremony Master training.

After moving to Germany, he practised Japanese Tea Ceremony, to share an important part of Asian culture with German people. Since 1993, he has been living in Berlin. In the same year, he founded the EURASIA Institute and gave his many intercultural ideas an institutional foundation.
