University counselling and intercultural training
Annette Merker has been working at the EURASIA Institute since January 1999. Initially, she taught on our German courses, and later took on responsibility for the management of the German Department. Since 2002, she has been responsible for student counselling, university entrance and cooperation with universities. She has significant involvement in project development and tendering at the Institute. Since 2009, she has been managing our China Project. Annette Merker has been giving regular intercultural seminars and workshops at German universities since 2004. Her emphasis is the Chinese and German cultures, as well as an intercultural comparison of learning methods and study techniques. Annette Merker studied Sinology, German Studies and History in Berlin and Beijing. Between 1991 and 1994, on a scholarship from the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), she studied Chinese language and literature at Beijing University as well as giving German courses at the Goethe Institute in Beijing. When she returned to Germany she took part in a research project in the Free University in Berlin.
